This is totally random, but I’ve always thought this
interview was funny, ever since I came across it about a year ago.
It’s the Rolling Stones’ 1981 tour, in support of Tattoo You. The interviewer asks Mick how he keeps himself entertained during the inevitable downtimes of touring, and Mick says he reads, mostly biographies and novels. “What’s the current biography?” the interviewer asks. “Bernard Baruch,” Mick answers.
Bernard Baruch?! Mick Jagger, lead singer of the Greatest
Rock ‘n’ Roll Band in the World, Mr. Jumpin’ Jack Flash himself, the darling of
millions of rebellious teenagers, in 1981 spent his spare time reading about
Bernard Baruch, early 20th century financier, advisor to presidents,
a man who practically defines the Establishment?
Rock and Rolllllllll!!!!! Not. Yet somehow it fits.
